After getting washed out at two attempts to run the June meeting, everyone was really keen to race in July. Although the track was wet in the morning following a shower at 7.20am, everyone got to the track and started mopping up the water. It took a while, but the track was soon dry enough to race on. As the day was cool, with very little sun or wind, the track didn't dry much more and was very slippery to race on. But it dried slowly, and race on it we did.
It was great to see a few new faces on the day. Aaron (Ballarat) and Paul (Mildura), Eric (Yapeen), Steve (Maryborough) and Trent (Shepparton). It was great to see you all there, guys. We sincerely hope that you all had a great time, and that you come back to join us again next month.
We also ran the annual Concours d'Elegance. 11 cars were presented, and as usual, the standard of presentation was very high. After drivers choice voting and qualification driving (each car must complete three laps of the track to be eligible for the trophy), Tim Forster was awarded the Concours trophy for his immaculately turned out Saleen Mustang. The metallic purple paintwork on his car was highlighted by the chrome Yokomo BBS wheels, and even though the sun did not come out, Tim's car glowed. A special mention must also go to Lyndon (Skip) Turvey for his Denso Sard Supra. Again, beautifully presented and really looking like it was ready to hit the track with a vengeance.
Thanks also the Marlene, Simon and Doug of the Harcourt lions Club for providing the catering on the day. The Lions Club are making some money out of their efforts, and the drivers, supporters and spectators benefit by having great hot food and soup made available. Please continue to support these guys (and girl) and they will continue to support us.
The third round of the Vortec Nitro Challenge, to be hosted by the Mornington club, is fast approaching (August 28 (practice) and 29 (racing), 2004). If you would like to be a part of this great event, and get in a stack of driving with the best in the state, please give Glenn a call and get your name on the entry form.

Yet another great day in Castlemaine. :-)
Warm and sunny and a perfectly dry track. Not like some of the southern tracks, I hear.
It was for this reason that our numbers were bolstered today, with the welcome attendance of the crew from Mornington. The guys came north in search of sunshine and friendly competition. I am glad to say that they found it. Lue Sola drove like a man possessed and put an extra lap onto our Pro Stock track record. The records for Novice Nitro and Nitro Stock were likewise broken.
Ben Chislett showed that young whippersnappers should not be allowed to drive R/C cars, as he broke Greg Kilby's mark with the Nitro Stock record. Well done young fella. Keep up the good work.
Dean Jones, our newest member, upped the mark in Novice Nitro. Deans consistency is remarkable. Will we be seeing him in the Nitro Stock ranks soon?
The second round of the VORTEC Nitro Interclub Challenge will be held at Dandenong at the end of next month. Anyone interested in driving in this event for Castlemaine, please contact Glenn ASAP.
Hot on the heels of that event, we will be holding our annual Concours d'Elegance. This will be on June 13. Get painting everyone.

Great day for racing today. Cool early, then sunny and warn as the day went on.
Ben Chislett graduated up to the normal Nitro Stock class, and showed us that that was the right move, when he posted the fastest time for the day in that class.
Another newcomer was Dean Jones from Bendigo. This was his first time on a race track and he showed that he could be a real contender in future by taking out Novice Nitro with 3 convincing wins, with his fastest time of the day being a competitive time for Nitro Stock. We might give him another run in Novice and then I think it will be time for him to graduate too. :-)
Many thanks must go to the guys and gal from the Harcourt Lions Club (Marlene, Simon and Doug) who provided the catering for the drivers and spectators today (and last month too). The efforts by these guys is greatly appreciated. The Lions club is doing this on a three month trial basis as it is a fundraising exercise for them, so if we support them fully, then they will keep on providing this service for us. I am sure you will agree that having hot tucker on site is a real bonus.
The Harcourt Lions club are also looking for new members, so if you would like to join, or even help them out occasionally, please contact me and I will pass the info on to them.
We have been invited by the Castlemaine Hot Rod Club to put on a display as a part of the Hot Rod show which is to be held on Saturday 3rd of April. I urge all drivers to come along and participate as this day will provide the sort of publicity that we as a club really need. It may also provide some income for the club if we can run a couple of raffles during the day.

Fairly hot out at the track today. Ben Chislett cleaned up on Novice Nitro again. Likewise did Greg Kilby in both Nitro Stock and JGTC Enduro. Results have been posted on the results page and the Championship and Records tables have also been updated. More stuff in the gallery soon.
